Design Challenge 3
During the Workshop we aim to undertake an exhaustive search of simple CA This will provide insights into how we might use particular CA models for various purposes in design. We have several criteria to detect computational universality of cellular-automata, as well as any other dynamics system in physics, chemistry and biology, see (Adamatzky A. Computing in Nonlinear Media and Automata Collectives, IoP Publishing, 2001). However, we have not done similar work when concerned with aesthetics. is there any criterion of the aesthetic? If computation emerges together with some emotional response can beautiful be logically universal? Can ugly or dull be functionally complete? During these questions we aim to investigate some of these issues/ and have a clearer understanding of the aesthetic of CA and therefore how that might be exploited in both art and design |
